On Monday of this week, Fattoria dei Barbi’s export director Raffaella Federzoni led a vertical tasting of Fattoria dei Barbi Brunello di Montalcino for a select group of New York-based wine writers and trade members.
All of the wines came directly from Fattoria dei Barbi’s historic cellar, one of the largest and oldest collections of wine in the world, with labels that date back to the 1800s.
At Monday’s tasting, the flight stretched back to the 1970s. And of course, the provenance was unimpeachable: These wines have been at Fattoria dei Barbi since they were first bottled.
Each year, owner Stefano Cinelli Colombini makes some of the wines available for sale. And he also holds a topping-off event for clients and collectors. For the occasion, the owners of the wines bring them to the cellar where they are topped off with wine from the same vintage.
