Decanter on Brunello: “The groundwork had been laid in the nineteenth century… by Fattoria dei Barbi.”

This week, Decanter magazine published what will surely be considered a landmark feature article on Brunello di Montalcino, its history and legacy: “Brunello’s Breakthrough.”

Read the entire piece, free even for non-subscribers, here.

Jefford, who’s widely considered one of the greatest English-language wine writers in the world today, writes: “the groundwork had been laid in the nineteenth century by the Biondi-Santi and Colombini (Fattoria dei Barbi) families: the vital thread of ambition and refinement which positioned Brunello as one of Italy’s greatest red wines.”

It’s a fascinating and illustrative piece and the author quotes Stefano Cinelli Colombini, Fattoria dei Barbi’s owner and winemaker, at length.

We highly recommend it to you.
