Thanks again to everyone who came out to enjoy this extraordinary event at the winery!
What a great event this weekend with celebrated political cartoonist Emilio Giannelli! That’s the artist, above, left, with Francesca Cinelli Colombini and Stefano Cinelli Colombini, the owners of the Fattoria dei Barbi.
On Sunday afternoon, Giannelli met and mingled with guests as they tasted our wines, noshed on small bites from the Taverna dei Barbi, and viewed a show of his cartoons devoted to Brunello.
He’s a long-time friend of the Cinelli Colombini family and has created numerous vignettes inspired by famous works of art like the one below.
That’s his parody of the famed Sarcophagus of the Spouses, one of the greatest examples of Etruscan art, now housed in the Villa Giulia in Rome.
In the caption, the wife says to her husband: “This is so good it’s killing me!”
He responds: “What did you expect? It’s Brunello!”
There’s an even deeper play on words that may not be immediately apparent to those not familiar with Brunello and its legacy: Brunello di Montalcino is renowned as one of the world’s most long-lived wines and the couple is depicted in the afterlife.
