We were thrilled and intrigued to read a recent post by the popular Montalcino-based blog and online portal MontalcinoNews.
In the piece, the editors have tabulated all the scores for the 2012 releases by the four leading Italian wine critics who cover Montalcino today: James Suckling, Monica Larner (Robert Parker), Kerin O’Keefe (Wine Enthusiast), and Ian D’Agata (Vinous).
And Fattoria dei Barbi is one of the top 10 most highly rated wineries in the appellation.
That’s great news. And owner and winemaker Stefano Cinelli Colombini was pleased, to say the least.
But it’s also worth noting that of the 10 wineries that made it into the top 10, the Fattoria dei Barbi is the one only that produces Brunello on a large scale. All of the other estates are small producers with much more modest production levels.
It only makes the news more sweet: Stefano’s efforts over the last decade to raise the quality of all of the Brunello bottling has really begun to pay off.
