NY Times Tasting Panel: “Best Value” Barbi 2010 Brunello

“I believe that the best examples of Brunello di Montalcino are among the world’s greatest wines,” wrote Eric Asimov in his wine column last week for the New York Times.

Here’s what he had to say about the 2010 Barbi Brunello, which he and his fellow panelists ranked as the “best value” in the flight the tasted for the piece (not bad company to be in!).

“No. 4, from Fattoria dei Barbi, was in a different style, leaner and more herbal than many wines, yet with enough fruit and minerality to achieve complexity. This wine, too, will need some time for all the parts to integrate. Check back in 2020. The Barbi was also our best value.”

“Best Value: ★★★ Fattoria dei Barbi Brunello di Montalcino 2010. On the leaner side, with flavors of earth, minerals and cherries leavened by herbs.”
